International Coffee Day: New Limited Reserve
What better way to celebrate the International Coffee Day than by supporting not one, but two incredible women. We worked With LA Native Sonia Romero to create custom packaging for our latest Limited Reserve, Organic Mexico Julia Ortega Carballo.
Very rarely do you get a chance to try a coffee as complex, sweet, and just downright delicious as Julia Ortega Carballo’s entry to this year's Mexico Cup of Excellence competition. It’s even rarer that you find a coffee Certified Carbon Neutral. So when we found out Julia's coffee was BOTH we had to buy it. Here at Groundwork, it's imperative that we not only push organic coffee forward but that we support those at origin who think the same.
Julia is an innovator in every sense of the word.
Her farm, Finca Los Pinos is the first certified carbon neutral farm in Mexico. Nothing on her farm goes to waste. The fruits of the coffee cherries are processed into jams if they are not repurposed into soil additives for next year's harvest, not to mention everything is grown under the shade of Pine Ocote, oaks, chalahuites, and grevilleas (yay biodiversity!).
It only made sense to pair such a complex coffee with a truly dynamic artist.
Sonia Romero is a Los Angeles-based artist known for her paper-cut and printmaking aesthetics. Born and raised in Echo Park, you've most likely seen Sonia's work in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Smithsonian, Little Tokyo, the Mariachi Plaza, and MacArthur Park Metro Stations, or even the Artesia County Public Library. Sonia’s Distinct style lends itself to this coffee perfectly.
This extremely limited release will go on presale on International Coffee Day, October 1st.
